Plumbing Woes Got You Down? Read This And Get On Top Again!

Deciding to become a plumber is a solid career choice. You can work in a variety of settings, including residential and business construction, industrial and residential maintenance and repair and water treatment plants. Here are some tips to help you along.

If you experience weak or irregular water pressure from your showerhead, there may be mineral build-up preventing clear water flow. A simple solution to this problem is to clean the outlet holes in the showerhead with a pin. If the showerhead consists of a perforated face plate, take the showerhead apart and soak the faceplate in a vinegar solution overnight before reassembling. If you are considering a plumbing project due to having what appears to be pink or red water have your water tested first. This coloration is likely due to having rust in your water, which an average plumbing project is unlikely to fix. The rust is likely coming from your well and installing a water softener there is the best remedy to the problem.

If you cannot find the cause of a leak between the tank and basin, consider installing a new flapper. Over time, these parts tent to wear down under water, and even the smallest crack around the edge can lead to a leaky toilet and the loss of many gallons of water.

If you are looking into becoming a plumber, there are a few things that you should know first. The most important thing is that plumbers who work for companies do not make a high salary. You should try to find a way to work for yourself, in order to increase your earnings.

If you ever put food down the garbage disposer after a meal, make sure that you run cold water for about 15 seconds to help drain the excess debris. This will help in flushing out the excess particles down your drain, which otherwise, can build up and cause a clog, eventually.

If your water bill seems unusually high and you haven’t changed your water usage, the problem is most likely in the service line. The cost to hire a professional to find and repair the service line most often is far greater than installing a new line and then having the old one shut off permanently.

If water is flowing out from where your meter is located, a professional is required to come out and fix the leak. If your water bill goes up, this is most likely because the leak is on the house side of the water meter. You will need to get a professional to come out and fix the leak.

Check for calcium and mineral deposits by turning on both the kitchen sink and the bathtub. If the volume of water is low, it may be time for you to replace pipes due to deposits of calcium and other minerals. Check the water pressure and consider calling a professional to handle the entire job.

Be sure to install screened drain covers in your sinks and bathtubs. These covers will keep the hair from going down the drain and clogging up your lines. It is a very affordable way to prevent your pipes from being clogged and going through the hassle and expense of unclogging them.

Do not use the liquid cleaning supplies that are designed to clear clogs. These cleaners are harmful and can damage your pipes as they clear the clog. Instead of using damaging liquids, use a plunger or a plumbing snake. These are much more effective and will not harm pipes.

When looking for a new toilet, you may want to consider getting a pressure assisted toilet. These kinds of toilets deliver water directly to a jet in the bottom of the toilet. This jet is very powerful and helps to remove waste quicker and more efficiently than other toilets do.

If you have a leak and your water bill is going up, there is a method you can try before you call a professional. You can use the red-dye system to detect whether the leak is above ground, underground, or whether it has anything to do with the toilets.

If your toilet is slow to flush, add some white vinegar to the overflow tube. White vinegar helps the water from your tank to flow quickly, which will make the toilet flush faster. It is recommended that you use about a quart of the vinegar and let it stay there for at least an hour before flushing.

Drain cleaning chemicals may seem like a good way to eliminate build up in your drains but they should not really be used as often as you may think. There are many that contain very corrosive chemicals that are harmful to your pipes and may cause more damage than what the help your pipes.

The next time you have a clogged drain, avoid the simple solution of dumping drain-clearing chemicals into the pipes. While this method involves the least amount of effort, the chemicals in these liquid cleaners are destructive to your piping. Instead, consider using a little bit of elbow grease with a plunger, snake, or other device designed to clear your clog without chemicals.

Plumbing is a fascinating and exciting world that is only limited by the extent of a person’s knowledge. There are many possibilities, products, types of equipment, and techniques. Start experimenting to find something new for your jobs or to learn something new that you can better for your own usage. Become inspired by these tips!

Towel Rails

in Bathrooms, Heating , by admin

There are ladder towel rails & traditional towel rails. Towel rails can be installed directly off the boiler; alternatively, one of the most successful installation methods is to fit it directly onto a hot water loop.  Towel rails are simply plumbed into this circuit meaning that they can work independently of the heating – particularly useful in the summer when you may not need the central heating on. In addition, towel rails on this type of circuit are at domestic hot water temperature rather than full boiler temperature thus preventing any risk of scalding, which is particularly important where children or the elderly or infirm are concerned.

However if preferred the towel rails can, of course, be fitted directly onto a standard radiator circuit. Towel rails have the advantage of being easy to keep clean and highly polished. Towel rails also provide warm, dry towels all year round

Shower Enclosures

in Bathrooms , by admin

In order to prevent water from a shower spraying out all over the floor shower enclosures are required. Shower enclosures can range from a simple acrylic or glass panel above the tap end of a bath with a shower curtain extending to the back of the bath to what is effectively a shower room. However what is generally understood by shower enclosures is a section of a room – usually one end – in which the shower is situated. Access to this room section is via sliding or swing doors. In this case these shower enclosures are right across the room but they could also be in one corner in which case such shower enclosures would take the form of a quadrant or box in that corner. Shower enclosures can be of the tray or wet floor variety. The equipment within the shower room apart from the shower itself can include a soap dish and shower seat.

Wet Rooms

in Bathrooms , by admin

Effectively wet rooms are large shower enclosures which can take up the whole room which can of course be of variable size.  Wet rooms are designed so that there is no step up into or down from them. As such they are particularly suitable for the elderly or infirm – particularly if a wheel chair is used and in any case to reduce the risk of falling over. What is important is to ensure that wet rooms are properly installed to prevent leaking. This is done by a process known as tanking – a waterproof membrane placed under the floor of wet rooms, providing extra protection from a possible breakdown of grouting between tiles, or other damage. An alternative is to install a shower tray under wet rooms. In either case it will be necessary to install a drain with slopes down the floors of wet rooms to ensure that the water gets away

Showers for the home

in Bathrooms , by admin

There are elegant and beautifully made showers known as rainfall showers, meaning the head of these showers is larger and more water is allowed to fall from it, making it a more plentiful shower experience. These showers are the pinnacle of elegance and make a marvellous addition to any bathroom. Showers exist with a classical head or with modern and stylish square heads. Other showers available are chrome showers, or large head showers. In fact, showers exist to suit every bathroom.

There also are some non-electric showers on the market  that not only have shower heads but also have body jets lower down to give a fantastic rinse and massage sensation. There are electric showers that also offer this luxurious facility.

The heads of some showers are designed to come straight out of the ceiling, while other showers have their heads extending. You can even get showers with double shower heads.

New Bathroom Suites

in Bathrooms , by admin

Bathroom suites basically comprise a bath, wash basin , W.C. and of recent years, with French influence, bidets. Traditionally bathroom suites were made in white and then for many years it was possible to get them in all sorts of other colours. However  of recent years it does seem that bathroom suites have settled down to white only. They have traditionally been made of cast iron covered with enamel but at the present time, bathroom suites come in acrylic. These means that with modern tiles on the floors and the walls, bathroom suites can make a 21st century bathroom really attractive. The shower part of bathroom suites can either be part of the bath itself or a separate item altogether. As to the bath that can take all types of shapes and fit into a corner of the bathroom or be a separate item altogether at right angles to the wall.

Bathroom suites as said include wash basins which can come in pairs or singly.

Stylish Bathroom Furniture

in Bathrooms, Furniture , by admin

Bathroom furniture was at one time fairly limited to the functional devices required to get you quickly into and out of what was the coldest room in the house. Thus in the old days bathroom furniture consisted of a bath, a wash basin and a loo were all that was to be found. It is only of recent years that bathroom furniture has really begun to look nice. Also with the advent of heating and hot water, bathroom furniture has started to include such things as bidets, bathroom cabinets or cupboards, showers and radiators. With acrylic, it is now possible for  bathroom furniture to be constructed  of other than metal and wood. Moreover it can give a clean look to most bathroom situations. Also lighting whether incorporated in the bathroom furniture or outside it, has really enhanced its appearance. Indeed bathroom furniture has made the bathroom one of the most attractive rooms in the modern 21st century house.

Great Bathrooms

in Bathrooms , by admin

Bathrooms mean something entirely different to British people compared with Americans. The British include the W.C. as part of their bathrooms, whilst for the American, bathrooms are the W.C. In Britain “going to the loo” and “taking a bath” mean entirely different things. The American, one suspects, can use the term “going to the loo” indiscriminately.. Maybe the difference stems from the fact that in Britain, loos are  separate from bathrooms because loos started off outside. There were often no bathrooms in the modern sense of the word. Bathrooms were however wherever the tin bath that hung on a wall outside the house could be accommodated inside the house on a Friday night. However as loos began to be incorporated into the original build of a house they were generally put in the “bathrooms” along with the bath. In America one suspects that this did not happen and the two, loos and bathrooms remained separate because there was perhaps more room to provide for the two requirements separately.

Bathroom Taps

in Bathrooms , by admin

Bathroom taps generally come in pairs one for hot water and the other for cold. There are however combined hot and cold bathroom taps which are obviously cheaper to install but it is important to buy the right sort of bath with only one bathroom tap hole!

So far it has been assumed that the only bathroom taps in a bathroom are those on the bath but the wash basin will also have a pair of taps or one combined bathroom tap.

In the past bathroom taps have always been situated on the bath/wash basin but in recent times, innovations like bathroom taps where the spout is separate from the tap or bathroom taps separate from the basin – fixed in the wall or on a pedestal straight from the floor have become popular.

Bathroom taps also have different handles – again in the past they were almost always cross handled or twister but now they are often designed as single lever
